Top spots: The Virginia men and the Northwestern women hold on to the top spot in this week’s Campbell/ITA College Tennis Rankings. Northwestern (20-1) has been ranked No.1 in every ranking period this season and in 23 of the past 24 rankings while Virginia (26-0), the only undefeated team in both the men’s and women’s top 25, claims the top spot for the sixth straight week and for the 23rd time in the past 29 rankings. The top-ranked Cavaliers completed their third consecutive undefeated ACC regular season with a pair of 6-1 victories over NC State and Wake Forest. UVA has gone through the league undefeated in four of the past five years and just completed its second consecutive undefeated regular season. The Cavs, currently riding a 41-match win streak over ACC opponents, will head to Cary, N.C. next week for the ACC Tournament. Virginia will be the top seed and is looking for its third consecutive title and its fifth title in the past six years. Northwestern’s final road trip of the regular season turned out to be a perfect one as the Wildcats recorded back-to-back sweeps against Iowa and Minnesota, marking the first time since the opening dual matches of the season that Northwestern has swept consecutive matches. Northwestern will attempt to wrap up yet another undefeated Big Ten regular season with home matches against Ohio State and Penn State this weekend.
