MATCHUPS SET FOR ITA NATIONAL MEN’S TEAM INDOORS
16 of the Top Teams Will Compete at Chicago’s Midtown Tennis Club Feb. 13 – 16

SKILLMAN, N.J.The matchups have been set for the 16 teams competing in the 2009 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Men's Team Indoor Championships. The University of Illinois will host the 35th annual Championships at Midtown Tennis Club, February 13 – 16.

Of the fifteen No.1 seeds in the Kick-Off competition, 14 have advanced with an opportunity to capture the elusive National Team Indoor Championship title. Baylor, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Mississippi, Ohio State, Pepperdine, Southern Cal, Stanford, Tennessee, Texas, Tulsa and UCLA join host Illinois and defending champion Virginia.

Baylor (4-1): Currently ranked #10 in the ITA Rankings with victories over #61 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, #46 SMU, #68 Utah and #55 Georgia Tech. The Bears have two players ranked in singles (#13 Jordan Rux and #71 Dominik Mueller).
First Round Matchup: No. 10 Baylor vs. No. 8 Tennessee

Florida (4-0): Currently ranked #7 in the ITA Rankings with victories over #71 Furman, #10 Baylor, #40 Arizona and #14 Texas A&M. The Gators have three players ranked in singles (#63 Joey Burkhardt, #66 Tyler Hochwalt, #87 Carlos Cueto).
First Round Matchup: No. 7 Florida vs. No. 11 Stanford

Florida State (6-2): Currently ranked #16 in the ITA Rankings with victories over #25 Notre Dame, #36 Duke, #17 Oklahoma State and #72 South Alabama. The Seminoles have two players ranked in singles (#29 Clint Bowles and #30 Jean-Yves Aubone) and two teams ranked in doubles (#23 Aubone/Bowles and #47 Bailey/Skykut).
First Round Matchup: No. 14 Florida State vs. No. 3 Georgia

Georgia (5-0): Currently ranked #3 in the ITA Rankings with victories over #63 Clemson, #51 South Carolina, #41 Washington and #38 East Tennessee State. The Bulldogs have two players ranked in singles (#18 Nate Schnugg and #35 Jamie Hunt) and Schnugg/Hunt are ranked #40 in doubles.
First Round Matchup: No. 3 Georgia vs. No. 14 Florida State

Illinois (4-2): Currently ranked #13 in the ITA Rankings with victories over #20 Pepperdine and #36 Duke. The Illini have four players ranked in singles (#26 Roy Kalmanovich, #41 Dennis Nevolo, #101 Marc Spicijaric and #113 Meedo El Tabakh) and Billy Heiser/Ruan Roelofse are ranked #36. Serving as the host institution for the second time in three years (2007).

Michigan (5-1): Currently ranked #18 in the ITA Rankings with victories over #24 California, #33 VCU and #28 Vanderbilt. The Wolverines duo of Mike Sroczynski and Jason Jung are ranked #8 in doubles.
First Round Matchup: No. 15 Michigan vs. No. 2 Texas

Mississippi (4-0): Currently ranked #9 in the ITA Rankings with victories over #31 Kentucky, #21 Wake Forest and #52 Mississippi State. The Rebels have three players ranked in singles (#28 Jonas Berg, #52 Kalle Norberg and #89 Bram ten Berge) and the team of Berg/ten Berge are ranked #1 in doubles.
First Round Matchup: No. 9 Mississippi vs. No. 6 Southern Cal

Ohio State (7-0): Currently ranked #1 in the ITA Rankings with victories over #41 Washington, #64 Stetson, #32 Virginia Tech, #22 North Carolina and #21 Wake Forest. The Waves have three players ranked in singles (#51 Omar Altmann, #57 Mahmoud Kamel and #122 Basam Beidas) and the doubles pair of Altmann/Beidas are ranked #45.
First Round Matchup: No. 16 Pepperdine vs. No. 1 Ohio State

Southern Cal (5-0): Currently ranked #6 in the ITA Rankings with victories over #52 Mississippi State and #50 San Diego (twice). The Trojans have four players ranked in singles (#7 Robert Farah, #54 Matt Kecki, #58 Steve Johnson and #64 Abdullah Magdas) and have two teams ranked in doubles (#2 Farah/Johnson and #46 Kells/Nguyen).
First Round Matchup: No. 6 Southern Cal vs. No. 9 Mississippi

Stanford (4-0): Currently ranked #11 in the ITA Rankings with victories over #53 Hawaii-Manoa, #30 Boise State and #29 Auburn. The Cardinal have three players ranked in singles (#14 Bradley Kahn, #33 Alex Clayton and #62 Richard Wire).
First Round Matchup: No. 11 Stanford vs. No. 7 Florida

Tennessee (5-0): Currently ranked #8 in the ITA Rankings with victories over #38 East Tennessee State, #49 Harvard, #39 Louisville and #13 Illinois. The Volunteers have two players ranked in singles (#50 John-Patrick Smith and #103 Boris Conkic). Conkic and doubles partner Matteo Fago are ranked #21.
First Round Matchup: No. 8 Tennessee vs. No. 10 Baylor

Texas (5-0): Currently ranked #2 in the ITA Rankings with victories over #12 Tulsa, #16 Florida State, #59 UC Santa Barbara, #34 TCU and #14 Texas A&M. The Longhorns have two players ranked in singles (#31 Dimitar Kutrovsky and #84 Olivier Sajous). The tandem of Kutrovsky and Josh Zavala are ranked #25 in doubles.

The ITA Welcome Banquet, that will take place on Thursday evening, will include the 16 participating teams as well as special VIP's from the Chicago area. Jon Vegosen will be this year's keynote speaker. Mr. Vegosen, a successful attorney from Chicago, who is also currently serving as First Vice-President of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) was a 4-year varsity member of the Northwestern University tennis team. He captained the squad during his junior and senior years and was the first player in team history to be selected to the All-Big Ten Conference Tennis Team.

The ITA Championships are open to the public and tickets are available at the door. Single day tickets cost $5 for adults and $3 for students. All-session passes cost $15 for adults and $10 for students.
