Emory, Williams remain No. 1 in Division III Campbell/ITA College Tennis Rankings
Top spots: Emory and Williams held on to the top spot in the Division III Campbell/ITA College Tennis Rankings. Top-ranked Williams (11-0) continued its dominance on the courts, defeating No. 15 Middlebury yesterday. The Ephs picked up their second straight NESCAC win, and their seventh straight victory over a nationally-ranked opponent. With five matches left in the regular season, the Ephs host a pair of ranked opponents in No. 6 Amherst and No. 18 Bowdoin this weekend. Emory (15-2) recorded 13 consecutive wins before dropping its regular season finale against NAIA powerhouse, Auburn University-Montgomery. The Eagles have posted nine wins over opponents ranked in the top 20 this season, two of which were recorded en route to Emory’s third ITA Division III National Men’s Team Indoor title.
Rounding out the Top 10: Following Emory in this week’s men’s top 10 are (in order): Washington University, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, UC Santa Cruz, Amherst, Middlebury, Williams, Kenyon, Redlands and Gustavus Adolphus. On the women's side, Williams is followed by (in order): Washington and Lee, Carnegie Mellon, Emory, University of Chicago, Amherst, Pomona-Pitzer, Denison, Johns Hopkins and Mary Washington.
Conference Count: Men's Top 25: NESCAC – 6; UAA – 4; NCAC, SCAC and SCIAC – 2; ASC, CAC, Centennial, Independent, Liberty, MIAC, NWC, ODAC and USA SAC – 1. Six different conferences placed at least one team in the top 10, with the NESCAC claiming four of the top 11 spots. Women's Top 25: NESCAC – 5; UAA – 4; SCAC and SCIAC – 2; CAC, CCI&A, Centennial, IIAC, Independent, MIIA, MIAC, NCAC, NEWMAC, NJAC, ODAC and WIAC – 1. Seven different conferences placed at least one team in the top 10, with the UAA claiming three of the top five spots.
Head Ace: The 2006 ITA/Wilson Division III National Coach of the Year, Roger Follmer, has been named head coach of the World Team Tennis St. Louis Aces. Follmer is in his eighth season as head coach of the Washington University in St. Louis men’s tennis team. He has guided Washington U. to seven-straight NCAA Tournament appearances, including the 2008 NCAA Division III National Championship. Follmer, who will continue to serve as head coach at Washington University, has also mentored 18 All-Americans and has posted a 121-42 (.742) overall record at Washington University.
Twice as Nice: Sixteen Division III schools have both their men’s and women’s programs ranked inside this week’s top 25.

Mark Your Calendar: This year's NCAA Division III Championship begins May 8-10 for both men and women with first, second and third round play at campus sites. The final eight men’s teams face off May 19-24 at Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, California. The women’s final eight teams also compete May 19-24 at Collins Hill Athletic Club in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
