Duke Women's Tennis Awarded National Championship Rings

, N.C.-The members of the 2008-09 Duke University women's tennis team were awarded their 2009 NCAA National Championship rings today at halftime of the Duke vs. Georgia Tech football game. Former Blue Devil Mallory Cecil also was honored with the Honda Award during the ceremony.

Head coach Jamie Ashworth, Cecil, Amanda Granson, Melissa Mang, Ellah Nze, Elizabeth Plotkin, Jessi Robinson, Reka Zsilinszka, and former assistant coach Kelly McCain Parker all were present for the ceremony. Tara Iyer was unable to return to campus for the festivities.

Cecil, the 2009 NCAA individual champion, also was presented the Honda Award for women's tennis as well as the Campbell/ITA National Player of the Year award. She is the second Duke women's tennis player to win the Honda award and sixth Blue Devil overall to earn the honor for her respective sport.
