DeHeart Wins Yuba City ATP Challenger
Former Illini Heat Up Summer ATP Circuit

YUBA CITY, Calif. - Former Illini Ryler DeHeart won the Sunset Moulding ATP Challenger in Yuba City, Calif., on Sunday, June 7, defeating Carsten Ball of Australia in the finals, 6-2, 3-6, 7-5, for the first Challenger title of his professional career.
"I'm tremendously proud of Ryler and how far he's come in the last two months," Illinois head coach Brad Dancer said. "He continues to show his resiliency and courage out on the court."
DeHeart had a sensational run at the Yuba City Challenger, knocking off No.6-seed Sam Warburg in the round of 16, followed by a win over Ceci Mamiit in the quarterfinals, to make his first-ever appearance in a Challenger semifinal. The former Illini advanced to the finals with a victory over No. 5-seed Michael Russell (USA), after Russell was forced to retire midway through the first set of the semifinals.
In the finals, DeHeart continued his impressive play, taking the first set over Ball (AUS), 6-2. The two split sets after Ball responded in the second set, 6-3. In the final set, DeHeart prevailed, edging out Ball 7-5 in the third.
In other Illini news, fellow former Illini Kevin Anderson qualified for the main draw of the Aegon Championships at the Queens Club in London over the weekend. Main draw action begins on Tuesday, June 8, with Anderson taking on Fabio Fognini (ITA) in the opening round. Anderson is currently ranked No. 163 in the world, while Fognini is ranked No. 57 in the latest ATP rankings.
"I'm really happy for Kevin to get through to the main draw of Queens and looking forward to seeing what he can do on the grass," Dancer added.
Rounding out the Illini in the pros news, former Illini GD Joneswon the wildcard at the USTA Future #12 in Loomis, Calif., and will begin main draw action later this week.
