SKILLMAN, N.J. – Eight of the nation's top Division III women's teams have accepted invitations to participate in the inaugural Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Division III Women's Team Indoor Championships, scheduled to take place on February 27-March 1, 2009 at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn.

This year's field consists of eight teams featured in the top 20 of last season’s final ITA Rankings including: No. 3 Denison, No. 5 Emory, No. 6 Mary Washington, No. 7 Pomona-Pitzer, No. 9 Carnegie Mellon, No. 10 Gustavus Adolphus, No. 12 DePauw and No. 18 Coe College.

"The ITA is delighted to add a very special event to our calendar," ITA Executive Director David A Benjamin said. "We are excited to be able to have another championship at Gustavus Adolphus, which has done such an outstanding job hosting numerous important tournaments over the years."

The format will consist of four teams playing three dual matches on three days while the other four play on two days. Each dual is played to completion on three courts, starting with doubles, followed by two rounds of singles. Singles are two out of three sets, except when the dual match has been decided. Then a third-set super-breaker is used.

Tentatively, the schedule is set for Friday at 11:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. for Quarterfinal matches. The Consolation Semifinals will be played Saturday at 8:30 a.m. with the Semifinals beginning at 2:00 p.m. and followed by the fifth and seventh place matches at 7:30 p.m. Event play concludes on Sunday with the first and third place matches set for 9:00 a.m. Seeding and draw placement will follow the 2008 national rankings.

This newest addition to the ITA national tournament calendar joins its men's counterpart, the ITA National Division III Men's Team Indoor Championships, which will also be hosted by Gustavus Adolphus one week prior on February 22-24 at the Swanson Tennis Center in St. Peter, Minn.
