ASA College Goes Coast to Coast in ITA Junior/Community Colleges National Team Rankings

ASA sweeps No. 1 ITA National Singles and Doubles Rankings

SKILLMAN, NJ (May 22) - The ASA College men and women both defended their NJCAA National Championship to finish the 2014-15 season atop the ITA Junior/Community Colleges National Rankings, completing an entire year at No. 1 in the national rankings.


Both squads posted dominant performances at the year-end championships, with the women sweeping all nine individual championships, becoming the first women's team to accomplish the feat since 1991, and the men capturing six individual triumphs. Taking second at both events were the Tyler Junior College Apaches, who will finish No. 2 in both the men's and women's rankings.


On the men's side, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College took third place that NJCAA National Championships to improve its ranking five spots and finish No. 3. Seminole State and Mesa finished tied for fourth in Plano, TX, finishing fourth and fifth in the ITA National Team Rankings, respectively. In the women's rankings, State College of Florida held strong at No. 3, Broward jumped three spots to No. 4 and Florida State College at Jacksonville rounded out the Top 5.


In the final ITA Junior/Community Colleges National Singles and Doubles Rankings, Callum Polland-Smith of ASA claimed the No. 1 singles ranking on the men's side after claiming the singles title at the No. 1 flight. He paired with Stephen Watson to claim the NJCAA National Championship at first doubles. Watson finished No. 18 in the ITA National Singles Rankings having won the No. 3 singles flight.


On the women's side, Macarena Olivares of ASA earned a national title at No. 1 singles to maintain the No. 1 ranking. She partnered with Megane Bianco to serve up a double bagel in the No. 1 flight final to secure the final No. 1 ranking.
